Compare Two Files

See exactly what changed between two versions of a CSV or Excel file: rows added, rows removed, and every changed cell, old value next to new.

  • Added · removed · changed
  • Match by ID column
  • CSV and Excel
  • Nothing uploaded

Original (old) file

or drop it here

New file

or drop it here

Drop both files at once, or one in each box. CSV, XLSX, XLS or ODS.

Options

Both files are compared on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by us.

How it works

How to compare two CSV files

  1. Add both files

Put the older version on the left and the newer one on the right. Excel and CSV files can be mixed.

  2. Pick a match column

Choose an ID column such as Order ID or Email to see which rows changed. Leave it on "compare whole rows" to see only added and removed rows.

  3. Review and download

Removed rows are red, added rows green and changed cells yellow with old → new. Download the differences as CSV or Excel.

Why this converter

A file diff that makes sense to people

Cell-level changes

With a key column you see the exact cells that changed, like price 149.00 → 139.00.

Column order doesn't matter

Columns are matched by their header names, so moved or added columns don't confuse the comparison.

Excel against CSV

Compare an .xlsx export with a .csv from another system.

Forgiving

Ignore case and stray spaces so "Ana " and "ana" don't count as a change.

Big files

Tens of thousands of rows compare in a second or two.

Private

Price lists, payroll and customer data never leave your computer.

FAQ

Questions

How do I compare two CSV files?

Drop the old file in the left box and the new file in the right box. Choose an ID column to match rows, and the added, removed and changed rows are listed straight away.

How do I compare two Excel files for differences?

The same way: drop both .xlsx files in. If a workbook has several sheets, pick the sheet under each file. Excel itself only has Spreadsheet Compare in some Office editions on Windows.

What does "match rows by" do?

It tells the tool which column identifies a row, such as an order number or email. Rows with the same value are compared cell by cell. Without one, whole rows are compared and a changed row shows as one removed and one added.

Can I download the differences?

Yes. Download CSV or Download Excel gives a table with a Status column (Added, Removed, Changed) and changed cells written as old → new.

Does the column order have to be the same?

No. Columns are paired by their header names. Columns that exist in only one file are shown too.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your data never leaves your computer. It works offline once the page has loaded.
