How it works

How to convert CSV to XLSX

  1. Add your CSV files

Drag them onto the box above or click Choose files. The separator and encoding are detected for you.

  2. Check the preview

If columns run together or letters look wrong, change Separator or Encoding and the preview updates.

  3. Download your Excel file

Get one .xlsx with a sheet per CSV, or a separate Excel file for each.

Why not just double-click?

What this does better than opening a CSV in Excel

Zeros and IDs stay put

ZIP codes, phone numbers, product codes and 16-digit card or tracking numbers stay exactly as written, instead of losing zeros or turning into 1.23E+15.

The right characters

The encoding is detected from the file, so café, Zoë, 東京 and emoji come through correctly.

Real dates and numbers

Amounts like $1,249.50, percentages and dates become real numbers you can sum, sort and filter. Day-first or month-first dates are worked out from the data.

Many files, one workbook

Combine a folder of monthly CSV exports into one workbook with a sheet for each, in one step.

A tidy header

The first row is bold, frozen at the top, with filter buttons, and columns are sized to fit.

Safe with any file

Cells that start with = or @ are stored as plain text, never as formulas, so a CSV can't sneak a formula into your spreadsheet.

FAQ

Questions

How do I convert CSV to Excel without losing leading zeros?

Use this converter. It looks at each column before converting, and if any value has a leading zero (like ZIP code 00501) or is a long ID number, the whole column is stored as text so nothing is stripped. Double-clicking a CSV in Excel removes those zeros.

Can I combine several CSV files into one Excel workbook?

Yes. Add all the CSV files, keep Several files set to One workbook, and download. Each CSV becomes its own sheet, named after the file.

Why do accents look wrong when I open my CSV in Excel?

Excel often guesses the wrong encoding. This converter detects the encoding (UTF-8, UTF-16, Windows-1252 and more) and writes a proper Excel file, so accents, emoji and non-Latin text come out right. If the preview still looks wrong, pick the encoding by hand.

What happens to values that start with =?

They're stored as plain text, so they can't run as formulas when the file is opened. That protects you from “CSV injection”, where a cell like =HYPERLINK(…) in a downloaded file runs as a formula.

Is there a row limit?

Excel allows 1,048,576 rows per sheet. If your CSV is longer, the extra rows continue on a second sheet (with the header repeated), and you're told it happened.

Are my CSV files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, and the Excel file is created on your computer.
