How to split a CSV file

How do I split a large CSV file into multiple files?

Drop the file on the splitter above, enter how many rows each file should have (1,000 by default) and click Download. You get a zip with every piece, each starting with the header row.

Can I split a CSV by the values in a column?

Yes. Choose "One file per value in a column" and pick the column. Every distinct value gets its own file, named after it, for example sales - Texas.csv.

Is the header row repeated in every file?

Yes, when "First row is a header" is ticked. Untick it if your file has no header row.

How do I split a CSV file in Excel?

Excel has no split command: you would copy blocks of rows into new workbooks by hand and save each one. This tool does it in one step and works with files bigger than Excel's 1,048,576-row limit.

What is the largest file I can split?

There is no fixed cap. Files of several hundred MB work on most computers; the limit is your browser's memory.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your data never leaves your computer. It works offline once the page has loaded.
