Why it matters
Payroll data shouldn't go through a free upload site
Most free converters upload your file to their servers to convert it. For payroll that can put salaries, bank details and tax numbers on a server you don't control, which may break your company's data policy or privacy laws such as GDPR. This converter works entirely in your browser, so there is nothing to upload.
| Upload converter | This converter |
|---|---|
| Your file is sent to a company's server, usually kept for hours or days | Your file never leaves your computer |
| You need to check their privacy terms and where their servers are | Nothing to check: there is no server copy |
| Often a size or daily limit, and ads | No limits, no ads, no sign-up |
| Dates and IDs often come out as raw numbers | Values come out as Excel shows them |
Settings
Settings that payroll systems usually expect
- Employee IDs and zip codes: keep Numbers: As shown in Excel so 000042 stays 000042.
- Pay dates: most payroll importers want Dates: ISO (2026-03-04) or the exact format in their import guide.
- Amounts: payroll imports usually want plain numbers. Choose Raw values if the template says no currency symbols or thousands separators.
- Names with accents: use UTF-8, or UTF-8 with BOM if someone will open the CSV in Excel.
Always check your provider's import template; it lists the columns and formats it expects.

FAQ
Questions
Is it safe to convert payroll data online?
With an upload site, your file is sent to their servers. With this converter it is not: the conversion runs in your browser, and it keeps working with the internet turned off.
Will employee IDs lose their leading zeros?
No. IDs formatted as 000042 in Excel stay 000042 in the CSV with the default settings.
Can I convert several payroll files at once?
Yes. Add as many workbooks as you like and download them all as one zip.
Do you keep a copy of my file?
No. We never receive it. There is no server copy to keep or delete.
